If you are new to the world of blogging, and perhaps have written a few dozen posts, you may have been wondering at some point “Where's all my traffic”
Nowadays, the secret sauce your readers require doesn't come in the form of some amazingly well written article, but rather the sparkle that draws the reader's eye.
Knowing this, a grand shift in both style, frequency and length of posts has vastly changed in our current world of marketing.
You've seen this change first hand, especially on Facebook.
So how can you compete? The short answer is by effectively leveraging as many marketing tactics that you can muster to help layer the performance on your site.
In this article, we'll be exploring SEO title tags and the benefit of crafting a good tag to help increase the pageviews on your site.
What is a title tag?
A title tag is an HTML code, located in the ‘head' section which search engines use to locate and filter your website.
Here' s quick visual example from a wordpress dashboard.
Essentially, a good title tag will enable a higher ranking from Google. Let's continue reading the fantastic analysis of a good title tag which comes directly from the website techwyse
Creating an Effective Title Tag
Reflect the Content of your Page
First of all, make sure that the title tag accurately reflects the content of your page. That will improve the usability of your page, which is another ranking factor. Also try to include at least one high-volume keyword in your title tag. Place these keywords near the beginning of your title tag, if possible.
Length of your Title Tag
Length is another thing to keep in mind, as it affects what users will see in the search results page. Generally, Google will only display a title tag that is no longer than 512 pixels (about the length of one line of text – 50-60 characters).
This is how your title tag is going to look like if it’s longer than this prescribed limit:
You may sometimes find longer title tags fully displayed on Google, but a good rule is to stick with a title of 55 characters or less.
Title Tag Branding
You will want to include your company name in your title tag also.
Include it right in the beginning is the best way to relate the post to your brand:
Or you can give more emphasis to the subject of the post by mentioning it at the end of your title tag:
Your title tag should be different from the title tags of any other pages on your site. It also needs to be different from your page title. That will help you use a greater variety of high-volume keywords.
Powerful Words to Use
Also make sure that your title tag is unique, and that it sounds like a human wrote it. For this purpose you may want to include powerful words that entices users to click:
Including keywords into the title tag will improve the visibility of your page in Google. According to Moz’s research, it is better to put your keyword as close to the beginning of the title tag as possible.
For instance, if your keyword was ‘on-page SEO’, it would be better to avoid putting it at the end of your title tag:
What Are Some Mistakes to Avoid?
Often, title tags are “machine” generated rather than written by a human person. Google is able to pick up on the nuances of these tags and label them as spam.
To avoid your webpage succumbing to this fate, use your keyword just once. The repetition of the same keyword multiple times is part of what caused the webpage to be labeled as “spammy.”
Strive to craft a unique title tag. If 50% of the words in your tag resemble any other title, this is a hint to Google that it may not be original.
The only element required to implement notating a title tag for each of your site's posts is: Time.
In finding the time to do so, you'll benefit from the added views your site is getting and overall improve the folks that search for your niche.
